The Johnson rules the world!!

CHAMPION SOUND!! Stop the press because he's done it again, OHD's very own Jon Russell ruled the roost this weekend at the Castleford leg of the 2008 British Snow Tour. Taking down first place for the second year running, the man himself gave us the tricks that won him the title, check this out for some uber-tech shizzle....

Nollie to back tail, switch-up on the down bar, then onto the kink rail where he stomped a gap 270on to switch front board....killed the barrell jib with a nose-tap back 720(!) out, this was widely reported as a 540 but no no no my friends, we have it right, eat that 720!! Finishing off with a back 180 on, cab 1 off the wallride...POW POW!! A tight decision for the judges, but ive always said these people are very intelligent judges(!) and they definitely made the correct choice...just!

Second place was scooped by Jamie Nicholls and Steve Revill placed third...also some mini props are due for Lyndsey Ashdown who managed second place in the womens slopestlye competition, nice work Ashdown!

Butler wins big north of the border!

Our congratulaions go out to our very own Lucy Butler, who managed to fend off the competition this weekend to take the womens title in the Vans sponsored Dawn of the Shred competition up in Aviemore.

With bad weather forcing the schedule back a day to the Sunday, and a much bigger, more intimidating course than last year, Lucy took it to the real Northerners with a combo of boardslides and tailslides coupled with some nice clean airs over the kicker. Bad weather meant the runs were scored in two parts (to allow the judges to see the action!) and with a mean park choc-full of huge rails and boxes, this was never going to be an easy one to win. Lucy made good use of the escalator box and street rails, opting to hit the kicker rather than the huge battleship rail that had claimed many victims throughout the weekend, to take a long overdue victory in a fun and relaxed competition format. Always glad to hear you're doing your bit for OHD Butler, heres to the next victory!

Word has it there may be some pics from the event in an upcoming Document, but bad weather may well have put a stop to that....

OHD represents in OSLO!

Jon Russell had the honour of being asked to ride for the UK team at this years Jibbattle in Oslo Norway which took place last weekend. A kind of Rail Storm for the Scandinavians, the invited UK team consisted of Chris Chatt, Steve Revill, Tom Guilmard, Stu Edwards and Jon himself. The team rode (and partied) hard, beating Austria on the way to the semi's before being knocked out by Team Norway, who were themselves toppled by Iceland in the final event. There are a couple of pics up at http://www.justme.ws/articles_post.asp?id=202635

A pic of the set-up:

We hope to have more info on what actually went down at the event, but all we got from our rider was a jumbled message talking about the after party at 6am on Sunday, sounds interesting......

Leaving a lasting impression!

With less than a month until he returns to our soggy shores, Hammo has got involved with 'Edition Addiction Vol 1', a series of exhibitions, showcasing the work of artists who make Limited Editions of their art, whether in the form of prints, dolls, photographs, stencils etc. All of the editions are original, limited and affordable.

There will be a website up and running soon where folks can buy work from the show...
www.editionaddiction.com. Hammo threw his hat into the ring with some limited edition screenprints, we like it a lot!

And just in case you are reading this in Hobart, get down to the opening, Friday 7th December @6pm, Jimmy's Skate and Street, 120 Elizabeth Street, Hobart! Now wheres my passport...?

Double it!

Hot Dog! Not content with slaying all before him at the recent K-Jam up at Kendal dryslope, taking 2nd in the Big Air and first in Slopestyle, Jon Russell continues to bag all freebies and prizes possible by taking top spot at the SnoZone/StandingSideways Street Session held last Thursday in Hull:

A couple of local kids stopped and did a double take, but they weren’t seeing things, there actually was a ski-slope in their town centre…..

Thursday 22nd November, 17:00hrs, Hull City centre, strange things were definitely afoot. Snozone Castleford, along with BoardPatrol of Hull, StandingSideways and Hull City Council had banged heads in a most jib-tastic fashion, working together to bring 20 tonnes of real snow to the centre of Hull to create the first (of many planned) Street Sessions. The format was simple, invite numerous UK pro-snowboarders and skiers to show up and throw down, and give the good folk of Hull a taste of what the white stuff has to offer.

Damian Doyle headed up the build team, and after the scaffold was erected right under the city’s BBC big screen and the snow laid, a choice of jib obstacles was installed. On the riders right was a simple down box, while on the left was a tasty looking C-box, with both options leading down to the mini quarter/wall ride at the bottom of the course. With a live TV feed to the screen above them, a perfect set-up in front of them and a hyped up crowd below, the riders were ready to slay the course, pumped up even further by the sounds of the resident DJ and one very random MC.

The event went off almost immediately, and it’s no surprise when you consider the riders who had accepted the invite to ride at this, the first ever Street Session. Beginning with a relaxed jam format, pro’s including Stu Edwards and Ric Barrow got to work straight away, getting creative on the down box with a succession of switch tricks. The ‘yoof’ element was well represented too, with Will Smith launching straight into a 270 onto the box, and Snozones own Si ‘Souljah’ Foster tail tapping his way into the crowds heart. Knox brothers Tom and Sparrow put sibling rivalries(!) aside, hitting the box and c-box simultaneously before stalling out with style at the top of the quarter.

After a quick spot of grooming it was time to reward the crowd for their constant noise making and time to get the battle on, Snozone versus BoardPatrol!! With one rider dropping for each team, the left and right sides of the crowds could win a plethora of prizes, dependant on the tricks thrown down, and more importantly, how loud they cheered! The riders began to step things up, the merest whiff of competition resulting in the slam count rising rapidly, which pleased the crowd if not the riders concerned. The level was pushed even further by the likes of Wayne ‘the handplant’ Taylor and Jon Russell, who was spinning every which way onto the box and riding with his trademark assured style. A big shout at this point goes to Chris Chatt, James Carr and MC Ferg, who finally showed up after a nightmare 10 hour trek from London! The Chatt/Carr factor amped things up considerably, even Damian Doyle strapped in and went big!

With the prize box contents rapidly disappearing, the judges began to take note of the standout riders of the day, and started assembling a who’s who list of those going through to the 6-man super final, where they would get just two runs each to impress the other riders who would be judging it. After a brief pause to allow local news programme Look North to ‘go live’, it was time for the Super Final. Making it through were Wayne Taylor (AKA) Stu Edwards (Salamon) Jon Russell (OHD, Signal) and Ric Barrow (Rome)with skiers Andy Collins and local boy made good Jamie Taylor holding it down for the two plankers.

Wayne Taylor opted to ignore the rails and headed at mach 10 towards the quarter at the bottom, pulling a crowd pleasing handplant that nearly sliced a couple of the watching judges in two! The C-box received double treatment from Ric Barrow who pulled both a back lip and a switch front board, while Stu Edwards opted for a nollie back-t Danish and a 270 onto the C-box with maximum Eddy steez. Skiers Andy Collins and Jamie Taylor were having their own mini battle, attempting to out rotate each other in a bid for glory. The final decision was unanimous from the other riders, the standout trick of the day came from Jon Russell, who nailed a FS3 the hard way onto the box, as well as a 270 on the C to claim top spot and provoke the biggest cheer of the night from the crowd and fellow riders alike. Second went to Stu Edwards and Jamie Taylor took home third.

Sadly for everyone, after the prize giving the course had to be dismantled (council rules!) bringing the inaugural Street Session event to an end. No matter, as the fun continued long into the night courtesy of a superb after party at Lamp, ensuring plenty of riders and staff were definitely not going to work on time the next day!!

video of the event here - http://whitelines.com/events/hull-snozone-rail-jam

pictures coming in a little while...

ok, only two...Damo and the riders.
